Ruud, I have been following your 1541LPT project with great interest. Have you considered emulating the drive mechanism at a lower level? Instead of redirecting the ROM calls, you could send a continuous stream of GCR bytes from the PC, simulating a spinning disk. The PC would have to listen for motor control (start/stop GCR stream), and stepper motor (for track change). For a full emulation you'd need 8 bidirectional lines, 2 inputs, and 6 outputs, but I think you could do a simple read only interface with 8 outputs and 3 inputs. I'm not too familiar with PC parallel ports, but I think it could be done with just wires and a DB25. -- ___ . . . . . + . . o _|___|_ + . + . + .
