The terms "single density" and "double density" as used by Commodore are 
the same as "double density" and "quad density" as used by almost everyone 
else.  The tpi specification is the only way to be sure what you have.

I have used both 48tpi and 96tpi on 8050's with no problem.  The only 
thing that is not compatible is "HD" disks.  These have a different 
magnetic particle formulation.

Have you checked the error message
