I have machines where I want a minimalistic system, because these machines are very resource constrained. Here, Debian based systems are rather good, as they do not add so much overhead. I don't think even Gentoo is better in this respect, because it needs the compiler in order to compile everything. Even LFS might not be the best solution here, either. I think the problem here is more that the documentation is lacking that information. Although, when I last installed Debian systems (Woody 3.0, Sarge 3.1), I had the option to choose if I want the compilers or not. Regards, Spiro. -- Spiro R.
