Hallo Jim,

> I'd love to hear any ideas.

The first thing you have to think about is: how are you going to connect
all these C64's? One should use off-the-shelf stuff and IMHO UTP is a
good candidate. Using UTP means we have eight wires at our disposal.

My first idea was using the ten I/O pins of the Userport in one or
another way. But then it occured to me that the 6526 has this nice
on-board serial port. OK, in the end it means we just build a second IEC
bus, but a fast one. And the extra lines and I/O pins can provide us
with some extra signals like a wake-up-on-LAN function.
The advantages of this approach are:
- the hardware design already exists and has prooven it works
- no exotic parts needed
- a lot of the needed software to drive it exists as well

Please shoot :)
