Thanks for your explanations. In fact I now did download the demo version of PTGUI (not Pro) and tried to use it. I did not follow your explanation exactly, but tried to discover features and options on my own. Well, I chose "tele lens" also but changed focal length to 10000. Since I did not select images of one row only, but a set of 2x3 pieces, the automatic aligning went not so good and I was asked to set control points manually. I did this a while, created a picture with luminance jumps between stitched parts and decided to take some pictures that were edge-alpha-blended before. With these, the stitching tool did not work well and a gave up using the tool (for now). Did you know that Photoshop also contains some basic stitching? Menu->File->Automation->Photomerge But this also doesn't work so well, and jerks, when using pictures with alpha channel information (transparency). So I went the route that I tested some times ago. I preprocessed all pictures with these steps: 1. I created a luminance correction picture and saved it as: Aufhellung_unten.psd 2. I got my recently created Edge-Alpha-Blending picture: Edge-Alpha-Blending-Wide.psd 3. I created an action set: VIC-II-Stitching.atn which does the following: a) Assume a picture of size 2048x1536 open b) Load and copy Aufhellung_unten.psd c) Close Aufhellung_unten.psd d) Copy the buffer as new layer on the opened picture e) Adjust the new layer as luminance correction (overlay) f) Load/copy Edge-Alpha-Blending-Wide.psd c) Close Edge-Alpha-Blending-Wide.psd d) Copy the buffer as new layer on the opened picture e) Adjust the new layer as weak cut-off with 30% transparency f) Combine all visible layers to one g) Save the image as TIFF without layers, but additional alpha channel Find the pictures as well as the action set in this file: http://d81.de/shared/vic-ii/Luma+Edge-Alpha-Blending.zip I then took 2x3 of these TIFFs into Photoshop again and started puzzling as done before. By first selecting difference merge for all layers (sometimes XOR), manual stitch adjusting was made more simple. Finally I gave all layers a luminance blend again. Due to the edge alpha blending of all pieces it was of no (big) difference, if luminance blending or normal layer mixing was used. Finally all layers were reduced to the background, the image size reduced a bit and the picture saved as HQ jpeg: http://d81.de/shared/vic-ii/1012-1214.jpg What do you think? > I can take shots of chips now and then. I just wanted to ask, _if_ I should find some other ceramic packaged 65xx chip sometime. Once I have got a 6569, but it got damaged somehow and I threw it away, when I was a kid. > Since my time is limited to 24h a day, I can't push this too much. To be honest, for me your DIE pictures are nothing more than nice to have pictures. I'm really looking out for some printing service (copy shop) that are able to produce colored A2, A1 or A0 pictures, maybe laminated as you already asked for. Today I saw some advertising from our local copy shop. It seems I have to spend a visit there ;-) > Still for the VIC2 images I think it is in the 'nice to have' area, or > did someone discovered something new or clarified some assumption? > Maybe put up some priority list. > > Another thing is to make the data available. Hmmm, once there was Funet.FI, which is now backed at zimmers.net. While Funet.FI is a very big european FTP/rsync mirror server with lot's of Linux related traffic, I doubt that this holds true for zimmers.net, too. What do you think, Bo? Nevertheless, I'm so grateful that you made these DIE shot, even if it does take years once a addicted microelectronics engineer discovers these for analysis.
