Here is why: 1. I believe _we_ are the "average users" these days. Why Do I think so? well, how many non-dinosaur-geeks you know who are still (any kind of) users of this fine, yet obsolete machinery? Our children and families do not count, we know why... ;-) > How many > kernals will someone use? I myself use three, which fit in one 27256. 2. Me too _but_ I would very much like to have many more at my disposal without the need of re-programming the EPROM again. Of course I could put "all of them" into several switchable chips but then there will always be that one more that I haven't found earlier. F.e. the "proper" Speeddos, which I have a number of differently spoiled versions but none in the pristine state. > A > 27512 can contain up to eight. Sure, but 1) see above, and 2) isn't it much more fun to push reset with a key combination (Jim, please don't use those key combos, which are reserved by DolphinDOS :-) I suggest F1+F7) and choose one from the menu at will?! My geeky dino soul is really enthusiastic about such possibility! > For developers it certainly has a value: the device can be used to > develop new kernals, games or whatever. To Jim: I very much like the idea but am wondering why are you so much concerned about the footprint? My KERNAL EPROM adapter with its EPROMS is much bigger than the original ROM, yet I don't find it disturbing in any way. Of course there is a limit to how big and high it can be but (as Ruud suggested) putting in a small USB port (like SIO2IDE f. e.) to mount and manage the content of the flash is IMHO really tempting. Sure again - it might be more geeky to have ISP via 64 (a 'la IDE64 f. e.) but wouldn't it be more difficult to realise/code at this stage? I assume you don't have that part of code also ready somewhere... Good luck, and put me on the waiting list for a working one! P. Message was sent through the cbm-hackers mailing list
