The REU (re-) implementation of Gideon Zweijtzer's 1541-Ultimate for example does not show these unreliabilities. I did not implement into-the-deep exhaustive tests to check for rock solid operation, but it runs very stable for at least some of my machines. Software emulators like VICE also don't suffer from any unreliabilities. But take note that any sort of emulator always has got the potential of being incompatible to the original. With all my tests I discovered a lot of such incompatibilities and Spiro from the VICE team as well as Gideon were able to fix a lot of REU related bugs.
