Hallo allemaal, 1541IDE is nearing the end so I'm thinking about 8050 already. As I once said my idea was to replace the 6530 with the IDE-circuit plus some ROM and RAM. One reason I proposed this because I thought I _HAD_ to replace the 6530 because of the ROM. But I just realised that this is unnecessary at all: the ROM is activated by a seperate pin, just tie it to + 5V and add my own EPROM. Advantage: in this way it could be possible to use the floppy disk and harddisk at the same time (with 1541IDE it is either or). A small drawback that I only realised some days ago, is that, although the Disk Controller (DC) part of the 8x50 is equiped with a 6502, it is only used as the 6504 on the 4040: the 6502 only uses one 8 KB range, A13..15 are not connected at all. The 6530 only provides 1 KB of ROM. I can expand it to 2 KB. But I only hope that I don't need more. The reason for this is that I expanded 1541IDE with a lot of extra functions but I have no idea yet which ones should be executed by the DOS-6502 and which ones by the DC-6502. And using both the FD and HD will consume the most space of the available 2 KB. -- ___ / __|__ / / |_/ Groetjes, Ruud \ \__|_\ \___| URL: Ruud.C64.org De informatie in dit e-mailbericht is vertrouwelijk en uitsluitend bestemd voor de geadresseerde.
