OK, it sounds like your C64 is defective to me. There must be some issue with the PLA or the IO port ($00/$01) on the 6510 so it crashes when it changes memory configurations. Someone else had this problem recently where their C64 would run some programs, but anything that changed the RAM config port would crash. Unfortunately, you'll need another C64 to troubleshoot that completely. As for the 64-cycle VIC, you don't have one, but there are plenty out there and they really aren't that incompatible. There may be a few games that get their graphics skewed, but it's a very small minority. All 6567R56A are like this and they aren't rare- there are hundreds of thousands of them out there. :) - Pete Rittwage C64 Preservation Project http://c64preservation.com On Fri, 23 Oct 2009 07:10:40 -0400 "Scott" <rylos@charter.net> wrote > Groepaz, > > FYI > > > the point is that many programs dont "like" cartridges and will not work > > with > > them. so whenever something doesnt work that you think it should, remove > > all > > extra hardware for a test- > > Understand, I think the Epyx Fast load runs about 95% of programs. > > I disconnected the Epyx Fast load and tried a normal copy of the Bedlam disk > I got from the web site Remember, using OpenCBM (Dos mode). 2nd, I Then > formatted the disk and set OpenCBM to only copy what is shown in the BAM. > 3rd, I Then set OpenCBM to copy the whole disk using serial1 (Slow mode). > > All three copy's lock after the run command on the C64C. > > In the emulator after the run command is issued the border areas would scroll > colors and then the crack screen would open. > > I'm going to swap drives (PC 1541 II > 64, 64 1541 II > PC) when I get home > today and see if anything changes.
