Now that you mention it, I am actually wondering why the drives don't work. We had a DOS 1 3040 floppy at school and it was working quite well with DOS 1 (670 blocks free, no DOS marker (or maybe "1", don't remember) in the directory header). So we obviously had a working version. Unfortunately I don't know the wherabouts of that drive...
