RE: 8250 to 8050

Could you be a bit more specific, please? You can read a 8050 disk by a 8250 by giving the DIRECTORY command. The first time it will do nothing, the second time it will list the directory. 

My project CBM-HD, http://www.baltissen.org/newhtm/cbmhd.htm, could be interesting to you: use an old PC as multiple diskdrives (4040, 8050, 8250 etc.).
Practically the same hardware can be used to connect a CBM drive to a PC so you can make images of floppies. I use the above trick to find out whether I'm dealing with an 8050 or 8250 disk in my 8250-LP. Once knowing this, I tell my PC to copy either 77 or 154 tracks.
