I made a routine once according this: I shifted the divisor n times to
the left, stored it and tried to substarct this value from the input.
Then I shifted the stored value to the right once and tried to substract
it again. I did this n times. IMHO this is the same way as doing it on
paper.

Here is only one shift operation going on. The only thing I can imagine
(even more then just imagine) that this routine is the bottom-up
approach of the division on paper. And THAT is something I can
understand :)
