I'd have to double check the schematics and pinouts (and my 1541U) but I'd bet 1541U had an option to map its "SIDs" into $D4XX too when connected to the "EXAPNSION PORT". OTOH (after second thought) it has some relatively powerful logic and computing capabilities so it might possibly do some tricks not feasible for simple(r) carts.. ? -- SD!
