The X coordinate would be somewhere in the $1c0 to $1ff range. You might also use double width mode to make the sprite better visible. This was years ago. I do not think I opened the horizontal borders. Opening the horizontal borders would have to be done on every raster line, right? I think I just used POKEs from the BASIC. But I do not remember observing differences between the 6569R1 and 6569R3. I may have, I just do not remember it.
