The tape recorder will not run. If you want to find out if there are any
other effects with the setup you use, remove the large glass fuse inside the
plus/4. That has the same effect as if 9V AC are not present.

Any power supply that will give you +5V at 1.5A or better should do.

Something like the power supply with the article number 350 696 at
www.pollin.de should do the trick.

Do not go above 4A or so because if you develop a short on the plus/4 board
somewhere, the power supply will happily supply all the power needed to burn
the circuit board instead of just shutting down.
