Jim, Right, so I set up another build environment. I installed Debian 5 on a VM with Sun JDK 6 (1.6.whatever), NetBeans, etc etc... compile, run... same response. (Before I had heard back from ShadowM, I thought perhaps I was using software that had introduced compatibility issues when it got upgraded, so I went for a 2+ year old environment). I've set up a new, clean install of Debian 6 / Java 6 / NetBeans 7, so we'll see how that goes. And thank you for taking the time - I didn't want to bug you about it, I figured you're pretty busy.
