PET diagnostics

Hi all,
does anyone know, if there really is a diagnostic routine in the PET
ROMs, and if so, what it should do/display ?
When I power up my 2001-8C with the daignostic pin connected to GND, it
blanks the screen and nothing more seems to happen.
A quick test with a 'hello world' basic program works.
The used ROM set is:
6540-019, -013, -015, -016, -012, -014, -018.
