Hi Ruud, > > I should know, because I had A500 with a GVP-Series II > > I got an "Impact Series II A500-HD+" as well but its drive is dead for sure. > But it seems for sure I can lay my hand on an other one. Question: what > software and/or procedure do I need to be able to use this one? The GVP drives all came with a "GVPInstall" disk. I can probably dig it up, or at least the install program, from an old machine my mom is using, maybe this weekend. The series II also has several SIMM slots, but they only take special GVP SIMMs, if I recall correctly. Incidentally, I also have a series II HD on that computer (a 1.3 A500) and it behaves very strangely. When you first turn on the machine, it gives a dark gray screen, and appears locked up. The next step is to give it the three-finger salute (ctrl-left amiga-right amiga) to reset the computer; the screen then comes up the normal light gray, but again seems to hang. In fact it is polling the drive or some such, and will do so for a minute or two, and then the machine boots off the hard drive. I was never able to fix this behavior -- maybe a problem with the controller, maybe a problem with the SCSI chain -- but it seems like the whole system has to wait for something to time out. My only point here is that although the system appears to be dead, it actually isn't -- I just have to wait a very long time for it to boot. Maybe you are having similar problems? Anyways, I'll look for that disk and get back to you, if you can't find it elsewhere. -Steve - This message was sent through the cbm-hackers mailing list.
