It would be really nice to have a possibility to connect whichever drive/printer/xxx and address it the usual way. The KERNAL would take care of verifying which bus the device is connected to and interface to it transparently. Put thoughts about Jiffy for later though. Start without it. IMHO it is worth enough even w/o Jiffy and thinking too far ahead now may impede the timeline for this to materialise, which would be a pity indeed. -- SD!
