Some of the virtual console games on the Wii output 240p over composite. It caused a problem for a few people with tv's that can't cope, but I'd say it is the tv that is in the wrong there. Anything with a hdmi port is supposed to be properly licensed and tested, but some computers and tv's aren't compatible with each other. It's usually sound related, my tv often loses sync at 48khz but is fine at 44.1khz.
