The "ridiculousness" we talk about is like a kind of a surprise that people are in fact willing to pay those amounts for such things. I think myself that I pay too much for pieces of obsolete electronic machinery as whatever CBM ever produced. Don't even ask what my friends/family would say if they knew some of the prices I paid for.. "computer junk that nobody's ever going to use for anything useful". Not that I keep it secret. They'd simply have to ask as I just don't broadcast information on that. They don't / rarely ask. I guess because they think in terms of two orders of magnitude less than it actually is ;-) Yet - I am still not in the league. And it's not really even about the financial capabilities. It's just a kind of.. conscience I guess, which makes me draw the line far below the levels we observed in this case. OTOH, maybe I simply miss a good investment opportunities... who knows? As well as who knows how long the custom chips are going to work in a unit like this.. eh... I'd still love to have one :-) -- SD!
