It would be easier if you posted a picture somewhere.. I assumed that the cable can be separated both sides from sockets. Now I understand that it is firmly soldered to the drive and a socket is available only on the computer's main board, right? If yes, then the adapter would need to go to the main board rather than the drive. A thin PCB material would need to be ordered for the edge connector for example.
