No, FWIW I got some good deals lately by doing the same.

However if you keep missing out with sniping, then bidding becomes your 
only option. If other buyers aren't going to allow me to get something 
cheap, then I try to make sure the price is high enough that it 
pursuades other people to buy them. Then hopefully eventually I can get 
one cheap.
