Agreed. The phosphor colour might be a better indication; AFAIK the early ones had white phosphor CRTs while the later ones were green. But everything could be upgraded; there was an upgrade kit that replaced the upper case half with the new keyboard and the newer bezel and label, and even the green CRTs were available.
