I wonder if there is a difference between VIC-20 and C64 routines at all, apart from obvious changes due to different I/O setups and clock speed. The slowdown in timing is in the 1541, I thought after switching off the screen on the C64 and putting it the 1541 into 1540 mode it is as fast as with the VIC-20.
