And regarding to your research who owns what: only people who make quite some bucks with their products could, read: "could", fear that they are approached for paying up. The only person who I know that could  fear is Gideon with his Ultimates. Not for the hardware but for the ROMs. But if needed he can sell the stuff without ROM images and the owner is instructed how to upload them himself.

That is: are the ROMs owned by somebody? These are IMHO the most important pieces. When Tulip bought Commodore, I asked the involved persons if they had the rights of the ROMs as well and the answer was "no". But they were busy obtaining them. A year later they still hadn't the rights but even didn't know who had them.
