I wonder why they spent the time to do this. They can't stop you reading/writing ram and executing code or it will hurt compatibility. Having a way to dump roms by sending code that copies rom into ram a byte/page at a time and then reading from ram would probably be a good idea, in case someone else tries anything similar.
