Regardless, there is a lot of hosted-on-my-personal website/arbitrary version control in my head stuff in the community and putting it where it is accessible, will last, and doesn’t require arcane knowledge, is the right thing to do.

When I started making projects, open source seemed the best way to share
the design with others and ensure the project (if they were of any
value) did not disappear if life events happened and I had to pull away
from the hobby (After the birth of our son and the subsequent car crash
by a drunk driver, I knew firsthand how sometimes it's all you can do to
get through a day yourself, and how that stuff always takes longer to
fade into the background than you think it will.

That said, while I'm still aligned with open source and sharing stuff
online, the greater community does make it hard at times, pulling
designs and making a quick buck, leaving my name on the unit so folks
call/email me for support. And, my experiences pale in comparison to
some. Even sharing the files alone with friends can backfire.  I feel
particularly angry on behalf of Thomas Franz (toms) on Forum64 and his
1581 design. That things went so badly on that design means he'll be
even less likely to share the RAMLink and SCPU reverse engineering he
completed.
