Thanks everybody!! I think ChiCLI is the closest to what I was talking about. And it is just because it uses the standard kernal, and the cli instead of CBM Basic. Chirab told me that he made the software boot from a cartridge, but I think the next step would be to hack the rom, replacing CBM Basic with this software.

But I don't know if that's feasible, because I can't tell if things like the screen editor, the keyboard scanning routines and other things are part of the kernal or part of CBM Basic.
