Mark wrote me a private message about the patents. He gave me the technical descriptions how to fetch patents as TIFF images from IBM's server. But as I'm very busy with my Master's Thesis right now (working 10-14 hours per day, 7 days per week), I would prefer if someone else did the work. Either download all the relevant files and upload them to ftp.funet.fi in one huge .tar file, or write a Bash script that downloads them with lynx, so that I can execute the script on ftp.funet.fi. Write me if you are interested, and I'll send the details to you. I hope that I will have more time after mid-December, when I hopefully graduate. But on the other hand, I already have n+1 Commodore-related projects pending. :-) Marko - This message was sent through the cbm-hackers mailing list. So far everything I've tried (a couple of the demos from JEZ' favourites page) has worked flawlessly. I just bought JD for my SX but it's broken -- disabling it with the switch freezes the computer. Turning it on with it disabled gives me a black screen. Writing a small program, a la loop inc $d020 jmp loop and flipping the switch freezes the computer. Any ideas? Kind of sounds like it shorts +5V and GND, or maybe some address lines, but I haven't looked into it yet. Yes, but you shouldn't wire the adress line alternatively to GND or VCC with a switch, because during the switching process the address line is somewhat undefined. It's much better to tie the address line to VCC with a 4.7k or 10k pull up resistor and pull it to GND via the switch. I've done this in my computer and almost never have any problems switching between ROMs. Nicolas - This message was sent through the cbm-hackers mailing list. And don't forget that I'll be travelling 3 weeks in November. I must practically finish my thesis by the end of this month. I have written 20k+ lines of C++ code (>600kB in size), but only a few pages of the thesis so far. Hmm, should I maybe write a Postscript driver that uses a 8x8 VIC-20 font on a 600dpi printer so that I could include the source code as an appendix to my thesis? :-) > If we both survive, I may have to fly out to Finland just to shake your > hand in triumph (and then beat you at Archon or similar :). In four years of constant use, I have not had a single program which only worked by disabling JD -- game, demo, or otherwise. I have had programs fail with the internal drive on my 128D (Hacker, in particular), but never JD. It is awesome. I have heard the rumor that it needs to be disabled for a few programs, but I have never once heard the name of those programs, and if they exist I think you could count them on one hand. Writing a small program, a la I can offer a stupid suggestion: put the old ROMs back in, to make sure it's the JD ROM. -Steve - This message was sent through the cbm-hackers mailing list. OK. Sounds like I won't bother and just go on using it with JD perma- nently installed. If I really need the original ROMs I always have the original, and, um two more 64s :) Actually I'm amazed that JD works with my FC3 cartridge. They even cooperate -- FC3 hogs the F-keys (and I think I prefer that) but all the JD @-commands still work. Stephen> Anyways, I hope you get the problem fixed! Well, at least I managed to find the problem -- CMD managed to burn JiffyDOS in the lower half and the Basic ROM in the upper half. Small wonder it didn't boot with that. -- ___ . . . . . + . . o _|___|_ + . + . + . . + + Per Olofsson o-o . . . o + MagerValp@Goth.Org - + + . http://www.cling.gu.se/~cl3polof/ - This message was sent through the cbm-hackers mailing list.
