Hello. An online friend of mine recently bought two "white" C64 (I suppose he means C64C) that malfunction in the exact same manner. He has looked up that the VIC-II chip is 8565R2, which supposedly is the PAL version. As living in Göteborg - Sweden, his TV and monitor is PAL too. The symptoms, as far as I understand him, are as following: When he uses a cable to get composite video, he gets an image without colours that rolls around on the monitor. I believe both the cable and the monitor have recently been verified with another breadbox C64 to be OK. When he connects the RF output to a TV, the picture is all black. Is this a common fault, and if so, what could be the cause? The VIC-II chip itself, something in the RF circuit? I looked on the Internet and specifically Ray Carlsen's articles and others, but didn't find any evidence of a fault like this mentioned anywhere. Since I haven't seen the computers themselves, I can only report what he has told. I can't vouch that the above descriptions are 100% accurate.
