Yellow and grey dots

Hello,

when looking through my collection, I notice that there are yellow or 
grey dots on some of the older MOS-chips (up to 1985 or so). They are 
usually (not always) on the side where pin 1 can be found.

Anyone here know what theses markings indicate?
