Device 2 is the second tape drive only on the PET. On later models, it is RS-232 and cannot accept LOAD/SAVE (I wonder why). If you only changed the default device from 1 (first tape) to 8, LOAD should issue MISSING FILE NAME ERROR. I guess you would want to use some magic file name (such as '-' in the original post), so that it does not load and start anything from a random disk that happens to be in the drive.
