Thanks to your help guys - the first cover has now been fully restored:

and became part of the project’s repository as fully scalable, editable SVG (included when you download the archive or when you check the repo out.

Obviously I don’t expect anyone to have ideas about what Pantone® colours they used back then but this can be easily adapted if/whenever this information becomes available (which I doubt ;-)
