Is your project going to use an analogue switch IC or not? I take "yes", judging by the following parts. > my goal is not to reinvent the wheel but to use my usual keyboard with my old machines > and avoid piecing holes in an old case to insert an usb connector Good. The one I have (somewhere) is still using the AT/PS/2 protocol and connectors. I'd prefer USB and even more a BT one. Although the latter still remain substantially less reliable, especially in a (electromagnetically) noisy environment. > actually I'm looking for something more recent than the 8808ae but difficult to find 8x8 matrix DIL or PLCC I remember I looked at "Analog Devices" chip some time ago. I checked now and found: http://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/ADG2188.pdf seems to be still "current", small and available in quantities but the supply is either 12V or +/-5V, which incurs extra cost per board.
