I believe the VIC-20 scene in latter years has developed a couple more image formats since Pasi's format 15+ years ago, but I believe those are even more CPU intensive with increased FLI like colour resolution. Of course for a slide show that you load one picture at a time from a cartridge, it shouldn't be worse than what Pasi (and me) did in the VIMM and VIMMII demos, but the challenge might be in getting a fluid movie running.
