Also, check the solder joints. I had an Amiga keyboard go bad on me, 
starting with failing intermittendly, then totally stopping to work. I 
desoldered the controller and added a socket (found a new 6570-036 on 
ebay for cheap). When I plugged in the old controller it worked flawlessly.

So it might just be bad solder joints/contacts that are killing your 
keyboards.
