well, yes, I had very few VIC-II failures and my old C64 was powered
on for years every day
without any cooling on the chips. However, in those days, I could
order a replacement by making a quick phone call and find the new
chips in the mailbox a few days later (and they were cheap chips :)))
Now, if nobody makes replacements with modern parts, when possible, we
may run out of replacements one day (well, maybe not during my life,
but who knows). So why take the risk?

if nobody else does, I can do that. I use kicad however. I think
there're tools to convert eagle file to kicad schematics and
libraries. I bet there're hundreds of people that can do it on eagle
here anyway.
