I finally got back to looking at this. It turns out that the floppy disk that I was using to test the drive was defective. Using a good disk, I have complete success. The only change I made was to line 14. This is listed as NC on the 1581. I disconnected it in the cable also, just to be sure. This proves that you can use a HD PC drive in the 1581 without changing either. You only need my cable to connect it. Drives that I have tested that work: Chinon FZ-357 Citizen 0sda-90G-U JPN 701B 6031B NEC FD1231H NEC FD1231T Newtronics D359T3 083899 Teac FD-235HF 4291-U drive with no label that looks like Newtronics Also, the following drives did not work: Newtronics D359T3 088201 TEAC FD-235HF 3217-U I will need to retest these on a PC.
