Joe Forster suggests such a driver (He uses directio.sys, and there's
also giveio.sys out there) as solution for his SC.

Anyway, I don't really suggest it.

Such a driver means that the security mechanism of NT/2K/XP for hardware
accesses are really made non-existant, meaning, you make NT/2K/XP to behave
as bad as 9x/Me does, and I don't think this is a wanted solution, is it?

BTW, currently, I'm working on porting Michael Klein's cbm4linux to an
NT device driver. It works so far that I have converted my first 1541
diskettes to the PC using that solution (PC/XA1541/1571). Unfortunately,
that took me approx. 3 hours. This means, I have a real performance
problem! ;-) On the other hand, I had not had much time to work on this
project lately, so it's stuck at this point.

Another problem I have is that sometimes, the whole driver freezes (but
*not* the whole machine!), and the only way to come out of this is to reboot.

Anyway, you see, there is work on this "problem" been done.

Spiro.
