Detect a C128 from C64 mode

I'm currently wondering if there is a really easy and reliable way for a C64
program to detect if it is running on a C128 in C64 mode. What I've used until
now is a subroutine testing for the VDC and VDC memory, but the memory
footprint of this subroutine is too big. I'm thinking of something with less
than 20 bytes. Does anybody have an idea how to do that?
