The dots appear when the rest of the video chip tries to read from a register that is being written. It just occurred to me that even some VIC-20 video chips produce these sparkles. Pasi Ojala has such a VIC-20. Also, on some VIC-20s, the colour index 1 is completely white, while in others (including mine), it is more like light gray. > ps.
