What 8255? Only the old XT has a 8255 onboard and that one is used for the
keyboard, reading the dipswitches etc. but not for the LPT. The original LPT
is made out of several TTL IC's. In fact I hunt these older cards because a)
they are very easy to turn into a bidirectional port by just some cutting
and adding three wires and b) these TTL-IC's make it quite robust.

Remark: I once had an old dragable that indeed used a 8255 for its built-in
LPT port but because of that it was incompatible with a lot of newer
software.
