My vote would be to buy more than 1 as cheaply as possible. I think the CR units are the best ones (DIN plug, smaller board, no PSU on board), but having two or more of them makes it so much easier to diagnose issues or just be able to continue operating if one fails. If I had the choice of buying 1 known "better" VIC and 2 of lesser preference, I'd go for the two units. VICs were pretty hardy machines, in my opinion.
