The next thing to do is to reserve some free pins of the CPLD for outputting the various free areas. You have to add some solderpads (or whatever suits you) to make the pins available to the user. (I assume that the CPLD has enough free pins) Great idea! I'd love that! Instead of making some risers and patching the original PLA's behaviour - that would add a lot of flexibility!
