A possible workaround: INT 08h is used as a return from 6509 to 8088. So
every time we call the 6509, we could check and overwrite the INT 08h
vector back? The programs which hooked into it would not work
completely, but at least they would not destroy the while system.

Well, we have the TOD timer at INT 0Ah, so we can use it to simulate INT
1Ch perhaps?
