VICE Emulator Question and Suggestion

Hello.

Maybe someone can help;

I recently tried out VICE for Windows v1.5 and it has a very impressive
level of emulation, excellent device support and nice features.

However, when I tried running Wheels 128, a GEOS upgrade within VICE
using true drive emulation, the OS just won't write to disk, saying that
such disk 'images' are write-protected. I have deleted, saved and wrote
to the same disk images in stock Commodore BASIC 128 while in VICE.

So, how do I get Wheels 128 to allow it to save, delete and update files
on those 1581 disk images? Do I have to use 1541 disk images instead
because the 1581 drive emulation hasn't been perfected yet?

Otherwise, Wheels 128 works just fine in VICE with true drive emulation,
but some colors are missing in 80 column mode.

I do have one suggestion for the VICE development team and hopefully some
of its authors frequent this cbm-hackers list and see if it can be done
in VICE. I would like to see the feature called 'REU Image' be
implemented to simulate the concept of a battery backed REU and expand
its size from 512Kb to 2Mb. This way, VICE can reuse the same REU image,
unless specified otherwise in a command line option, and treat it as if
the computer never powered off, draining the REU of its contents.

Serious 128 applications do benefit from battery backed REU's and it's
natural to see it implemented in VICE by means of creating a file called
'name.reu', where "name" can be a user defined name or a default name.

Enjoy.
