I'm wondering what could be done with a C64 motherboard if compatibility could be left out the table. I mean... If I take out the main chips (VIC, CPU, SID, PLA, CIAs) and put pinout compatible ones (existing models like WDC's ones or FPGA'd or Arduino cores)... If I put faster RAMs and ROMs, these having a different, not C64 compatible kernal... What could be achieved with the same motherboard? Could it be running at higher speeds? Could a C64 motherboard, leaving chips apart, stand 4Mhz speed? 8Mhz? 32 Mhz? (Just guessing numbers) I just remembered telomoya's dual core C64 (*) and though about that. Thanks for replies.
