At least for one problematic drive, I know for sure that the heads were cleaned not more than one month ago, and test tools report correct rotating times. Furthermore, I fail to see why non-adjusted or non-cleaned heads could result in reading problems immediately after going into read mode, but no problems if we take an extra round.
