I see them all the same way: both. (multipart/alternative;
most reasonable mail readers will pick the best one they candle. For
example, I use mutt, a text-based reader, so it shows me the text
version; most people with HTML-capable readers will see the HTML
part.)
Since you're giving them both, I think you're fine, and those who
complain should upgrade to a modern email client (which could be a
text-based one like mutt...)
